Elon musk and twitter

What will be the future of Twitter?

Elon Musk bought Twitter and has been promoting several changes in the social network. But the reactions to his decisions are being the worst possible. What will be the future of the platform?

As soon as Elon Musk took charge of Twitter – promising a drastic reduction in content moderation –, there is speculation about the future of the platform. In less than a month, the billionaire was responsible for mass layoffs – almost half of the staff were dismissed –, had tools and functionalities implemented and disabled in a short time and even communicated to the remaining employees that either they dedicate more hours to work or may leave their posts.

Fifteen days ago, it was revealed that key employees at the company had resigned, in reaction to Musk's management style.

Due to this whole crisis, the term #RIPTwitter became the most commented subject on the platform, with internet users considering a possible end of the platform. Including, many Twitter users are creating accounts in the Indian competitor Koo.

But is there really reason to be concerned? Should companies look for new platforms? It is still not possible to say, but it is known that the North American social network is strategic for business and will not lose importance so abruptly. Today, businesses use the platform to get closer and understand the mood of their clientele, as well as to conquer new consumers, especially younger ones.

Twitter has become an important platform for retailers. In addition to being a space where consumers share their impressions about products, with indications among themselves, it is a place for the brand to talk to its customers. To get an idea, currently, 76% of people who participate in conversations about shopping on Twitter were influenced to buy a product. The data is from the platform itself.

Between January and August 2022, there were 48 billion accesses to posts related to product purchases, in which users of the social network make recommendations and complaints and share their doubts, among other subjects.

Will Twitter lose its relevance in the market? Only time will tell.
